Join PSUFA

A high level of active membership translates into more influence at the bargaining table.  Simply by choosing to join the union you will begin to make your presence count toward improving conditions for part-time faculty at PSU.  By joining the union, you also become eligible to participate actively in that process.

Membership gives you a direct voice in your working conditions.  Members of the union help to shape contract provisions, serve on the committees that set our bargaining priorities, and vote on whether to ratify the final agreement. Only members have a voice in union policies at the local, state and national levels.

Membership in the union is not automatic.  To become a PSUFA member you must fill out the application. All part-time faculty (who make up the bargaining unit) pay an agency fee or “fair-share” contribution for union representation.  That fee is automatically deducted from your pay when you work.  But union members pay a slightly higher amount (approximately $5 per month) in member dues. The reason is that PSUFA-AFT does much more than bargain and enforce the contract between part-time faculty and the PSU administration.  Through our regional, state, and national American Federation of Teachers affiliates, we lobby on behalf of education, teachers, and other public employees.  We work to inform the public on issues vital to higher education

Joining PSUFA is a clear and effective sign of support.  Together we can make a difference.

Your membership dues contribute to support of local staff, and contribute to statewide information, candidate forums, and action in support of education, health care, retirement benefits and issues of taxation that concern all working families.  AFT-Oregon also cooperated with other unions in a successful lawsuit against Bill Sizemore for election fraud
